What this figure is, and isn't

The $2,500 to $2,700 figure is what a complete course of care — every visit through graduation — comes to at our published prices. It is not what every patient spends: you pay for each visit as you go, and you can stop at any time. It is not a quote, a package, or a prepaid amount. Herbs, when they're part of your care, are $15 a day plus tax and are not included. How many visits you'll need is something your practitioner works out with you.

How the total works

David's teacher, Dr. Bear, cared about what treatment cost his patients, so he built the method to need as few treatments as possible. When once a week isn't enough, the second visit that week is usually a shorter Focused Treatment, which keeps the cost down.

A visit here is priced by the visit. What decides the total is how many visits you need, and the whole design of care here is to need fewer of them as you go. Care starts weekly. As you carry more of the work yourself, the visits spread out, and the goal is graduation. There is no maintenance schedule at the end of it. So the cost is heaviest in the first weeks and lighter after.

The course of care: weekly visits first, then visits that spread out, ending at graduation.

Length of care

Length of care varies from person to person. Your practitioner will map out the expected phases of your care at your initial visit and review progress with you as you go.

Comparing us with another clinic

The price of one visit is only part of the picture. To compare two clinics fairly, ask each of them the same four questions.

How often will I come in at the start?
Here, once a week. When a week isn't enough, the second visit that week is usually a 15-minute Focused Treatment at $65.
Do I pay as I go, or up front?
Here, you pay for each visit on the day. We don't sell treatment packages. A prepaid month of visits takes away the pressure to make the next one unnecessary.
Do the visits spread out?
Here, they're planned to from the start. As you carry more of the work yourself, the visits spread out, and fewer visits mean a lower total.
Is there an end?
Here, the goal is graduation, and there's no maintenance schedule after it.

Then add up both the same way.

What $130 is

A follow-up visit is $130. David needs about thirty minutes to do it well, so that is what gets booked. If the work of the visit is done sooner, the visit ends sooner. You are not paying for the clock. The first visit is $240, and he books an hour for the same reason.

Every visit has the same parts. David reads your pulse and palpates your abdomen, treats, and checks how the last visit landed. Most of the treatment is contact needling that does not break the skin, the Dr. Bear Method. Moxa when it fits.

Herbs are separate: $15 a day when David writes a custom formula.

What we agree to

  • We don't sell treatment packages.
  • We don't set spending targets for our patients.
  • You will never be sold to in our clinic.
  • As little treatment as possible. Your plan is set by how you respond.
  • We will never lower the standard of care to lower the costs of treatment.
  • Herbs only when they're indicated.

Insurance

We don't bill insurance. If a clinic that bills your plan is what you need, this isn't the right place, and we'd rather you knew now. We plan care around you, and we will never lower the standard of care to lower the costs of treatment. HSA and FSA cards are accepted, and if your plan covers acupuncture, we'll give you a superbill to file with your claim.

Other visits, and what they're for

Focused Treatment · $65
15 minutes. When once a week isn't enough, the second treatment that week is often this shorter one. It works on the branches, the symptoms you came in with, while the full visits work on the root.

Herbal formulas

Care here can be acupuncture, herbs, or both, and it moves between them as your pattern changes. Sometimes the herbs carry more of the work for a while and the visits spread out. Herbs are given five to six days at a time, with a few days off between to see how you do on your own before the formula is adjusted, so $15 a day is often not every day. If herbs are part of your care, they're $15 a day plus sales tax, whatever goes into your formula.

About the herbs →
The dispensary counter: shelves of dark glass bottles behind a brass mortar and pestle and three bowls.

Paying

You pay for each visit on the day. Most patients keep a card on file.

If you need to cancel or reschedule, please call at least 24 hours ahead. Late cancellations and missed visits are charged half the visit fee.
